I could be wrong but I do believe we have newer, higher resolution pictures for our Merritt area. It's now Oct '09. Very nicely detailed. And they're labelling the mountain peaks finally. Really worth a print out for a hike.

The washed out look could be snow. Plus the Oct 9th shot has longer shadows. What got me started was checking out the small lake to the south-east of Loon Lake. Earlier I'd thought of an excursion walk there but the old photo didn't help enough to accomplish it easily. Now the tempting lake is the one to the south east of the culvert-tunnel. I've walked there before and now it looks even fishable. Plus I believe the log house and barn are discernable on the road due south of our site.

This last year I did a jaunt up a back road that petered out but led to the side of the highway and now the photo shows perfectly where I'd been. So that's why I'm thinking it's a new photo. Perhaps this is the result of your emailed request you made a couple of years ago and they told you it was all in due time.

I just wish they'd update the lower Chehalis river section with a new shot. Since 2004 it's changed its bed and I'm pretty lost when hiking in for fishing. Whether on the gound or starhopping I hate being lost. An update there should really help my navigation, and find more fish.

I have a BirdsEye subscription for my gps. I can download the latest map updates as they come up. The most recent shot of the pit is August, this year.
The resolution on these maps is much better. One downside to the gps is the small screen but i look at my maps on the laptop first, then it is easier to decipher them out in the bush. I still get lost now and then ohmy.gif
I suspect Google doesn't give the general public the good stuff.
The lower Chehalis has changed a lot over the year, due to upper river logging
that really shows up on the maps. Tough fishing this year. But the viewing hasn't been good either.

Mark, glad you got some fish. Only 3 Coho for me. All short float / drift fishing, which I'm rather new at. Spoon chucking didn't do it this year. Plus 1 slip and a pair of soakers in my new hip boots. Released a wild steelhead 10 days ago -- my first ever. With a gps you could see what's over the log jam or where the next bar is. Looks like I missed the delayed Vedder Coho peak when I went south with the scope. 11 successfull nights scoping for the year so far.

Have a look at the NEW imagery for the MSQ area.
Way nicer, easy to interpret. This is what the shots
look like from my gps Birdseye subscription.
Amazing detail!

Yes,Google Earth.Not the Pro version,either.
They did a major update last Friday.
Version is 6.10.5001. The patch work has been smoothed over
to make it look more seamless from picture to picture.
The Pit still looks washed out,but is somewhat better then previous.
The area around it is much better, you can see the cabin in the woods
near the old homestead and all the trails. I like the fact the Pits is so
white, this means it soaks up less heat during the day, making the
nights that much better for observing.

Very nice detail. You can even see the trail that runs north of Alleyne Lake, goes under the highway and north to the waterfall ... somewhere. Definitely a place to hike to this fall.
